Quick answer: The JF015E / RE0F11A — JATCO's CVT7 — was fitted to compact front-wheel-drive cars from Nissan, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Chevrolet and Renault from 2010 onwards. In North America the highest-volume names are the Nissan Versa (2012–2019), Versa Note (2014–2019), Sentra B17 1.8L (2013–2019), NV200, and Cube, Juke, March/Micra in the same era. Outside North America the same unit appears under entirely different nameplates — Sunny, Almera, Sylphy, Tiida, Note, Pulsar, Livina, Dayz — plus Mitsubishi Mirage / Attrage / RVR, Suzuki Swift / Wagon R family and the Chevrolet Spark. A model year alone never identifies the unit: the 2018–2021 Kicks and the 2020+ Versa use the wide-ratio RE0F11B variant, not the RE0F11A.

Every parts catalogue in this trade sells "JF015E" from a table that lists car names and year ranges — and every one of those tables is a starting point, not an answer. This page is the version we keep on the bench: the full application and year chart, the nameplate traps that cause wrong-fit orders, and exactly what to photograph so we can confirm which unit is actually in the car.

What this page gives you

  • The complete application and year chart — Nissan, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Chevrolet and Renault, with engines and market notes.
  • The wide-ratio neighbour: why the Kicks and the 2020+ Versa are documented in the trade as RE0F11B / CVT7 W-R rather than RE0F11A.
  • The four traps that turn a year chart into a wrong-fit order — and how to check each one in two minutes.
  • One car, many names: the market-by-market nameplate table, so a US and an Asian listing of the same car finally meet.
  • What the codes mean when the car already has P17F0, P0776 or P0841, by mileage band.

01The one-line answer

If you only read one line: the JF015E went into dozens of nameplates, but only three facts decide whether a part fits — the variant (RE0F11A versus the wide-ratio RE0F11B), the solenoid count and cap type inside the valve body, and the 29- versus 30-tooth primary pulley. Read the code stamped on the transmission housing, photograph it, and the year chart becomes a confirmation instead of a guess.

Everything below is here to make those three checks fast.

02The complete application and year chart

Years below are the windows our parts catalogues and the trade literature commonly cite for the JF015E / RE0F11A. They are a map of where this unit lives — not a fitment guarantee, because the same nameplate can carry a different CVT in a different model year or market.

Why most catalogue windows stop at 2015: the aftermarket catalogues that publish these lists were snapshotted around 2015, while the unit stayed in production in North American models to 2019. Treat the right-hand year as "when the catalogue was written", not "when the car stopped using it". The code on the housing is what settles it.

03The wide-ratio neighbour: Kicks and the 2020+ Versa

This is the single most expensive misunderstanding on the platform, and it is worth reading even if you never touch a Nissan. The trade literature documents that from 2018 the Nissan Kicks and the redesigned 2020 Versa moved to a variant of the CVT7 called RE0F11B — understood to be the wide-ratio CVT7 W/R direction, published elsewhere as JF020E.

Sources: comparative teardown and factory-manual figures published in GEARS Magazine ("The 2018–2020 Nissan Kicks RE0F11B comparison to the RE0F11A"), together with the RE0F11A factory ratios used throughout our JF015E reference sheet.

Practice note

You will still find the Kicks listed under RE0F11A in catalogues and in some workshop material. That is exactly the problem: two different units, one popular search term. If your unit is a Kicks or a 2020-or-later Versa, tell us the model year and the code on the housing at the same time, and we will match the part against the right variant from the start.

If your car is a JF020E, the right pages to open are the JATCO CVT hub (family grid) and the JF020E assembly listing — not the JF015E valve body listing.

04Same car, different unit — the four traps

Four situations account for most wrong-fit orders on this platform. Each takes two minutes to rule out.

TrapWhat happensHow to check it
1. Turbocharged and naturally aspirated siblingsA Juke, Sentra or Qashqai with a turbo engine uses a different CVT from the same car with an NA engineConfirm engine code (HR16DE versus MR16DDT and similar) before trusting the model year
2. Generation overlapThe Qashqai / Dualis and Rogue family spans JF011E, JF015E and JF016E across J10, J11 and Rogue SelectSheet-metal generation, not the badge. Rogue Select (2014–2016) is the previous body, and the unit follows the body
3. Wide-ratio variantKicks (2018–2021) and Versa (2020+) are RE0F11B / CVT7 W-R, not RE0F11ACount the pressure taps on the case; two taps plus a low brake pressure sensor means the wide-ratio unit
4. Market calibrationUS-market and international valve bodies differ — for example 31705-X429B/C/D versus 31705-3JX8ARead the number inked or cast on the original valve body and send it with the photo

Valve body and pulley part references quoted above come from the OE number map in our JF015E / RE0F11A complete technical guide, which lists the full set including belts, pulley sets, oil pumps, coolers and solenoid kits.

05One car, many names: US versus international

Half of the confusion in this trade is not technical at all — it is naming. The same body and the same transmission carry different badges in different markets, so a buyer searching the US name and a seller listing the Asian name never meet.

06What sits behind one model name

Even inside the JF015E, what bolts to the back of the engine varies by application: drivetrain layout, final-drive ratio and calibration are all vehicle-specific while the case code stays the same. The three numbers below are the ones that matter when you are ordering.

ParameterValue on the JF015E / RE0F11AWhy it matters at the counter
Torque capacity150 Nm documented (155 Nm in some manufacturer data)Explains why heat and worn fluid — not power — kills these units
Pulley ratio2.200–0.550Sets belt and pulley identification; the 30-tooth primary is a different part from the 29-tooth
Overall ratio coverage7.3 : 1Distinguishes it from the 8.7 : 1 wide-ratio neighbour
ArchitectureSteel push belt, variable pulleys, two-speed auxiliary planetary gearboxAuxiliary gearbox means clutch and low-brake parts exist that pure CVTs do not have
ControlExternal TCM, hydraulic torque converter with lock-up clutchLock-up behaviour is why judder codes exist on this platform at all
FluidNissan NS-3NS-2 and generic ATF are not substitutes and produce codes that look like hardware failure

07What fails, by mileage band

These cars fail in a recognisable order. Knowing which band the car is in tells you which part is worth opening first — and which codes to expect when you plug in.

BandWhat the driver reportsCodes typically storedFirst part to check
Under 60,000 kmHesitation pulling away, occasional shudder on a light throttleP17F0 / P17F1 (early detection)Fluid condition and level; TCM software level; judder codes explained
60,000–120,000 kmJudder between 24 and 56 km/h, revs climbing without progress, delayed D or R engagementP0776 · P0841 · P0965 · P0746JF015E valve body and solenoid kit
120,000 km+Slipping under load, drone or whine rising with speed, metal dust in the panP0730 · P17F2 · P17F4 · P2857 / P2858Pulley set and push belt — hydraulics alone will not fix a polished pulley face
After a rebuildRatio error, speedometer fault, or the original complaint returns within weeksP0715 · P1715 · P0720Speed sensor and harness routing before reopening the unit

Bands are indicative, not warranty criteria. Territory, heat, towing and fluid history move them significantly — the trade reports the same platform running past 190,000 km in mild climates and shuddering before 110,000 km in hot ones. Fluid condition and fluid temperature history are the two strongest predictors.

08Read your own unit: where the code is, and what to photograph

The charts above narrow the field. One photograph closes it. Here is exactly what we need, and why each item matters.

What to sendWhere to find itWhat it settles
Transmission codeCast or stamped on the transmission housing or the nameplate; on JATCO units often on the bellhousing area or the top of the caseVariant — RE0F11A versus RE0F11B, JF015E versus JF020E
VINWindshield plate / door jambMarket calibration and engine, which changes the valve body part number
Photo of the original valve bodyTop face, solenoid side, in focusSolenoid count, cap type and the OE number inked on the body
Stored fault codesAny scanner with live CVT dataWhether this is a hydraulic, mechanical or electrical problem — which decides the part, not the other way round
Fluid conditionDipstick or drained sample: colour, smell, and any glitterWhether the belt and pulleys are already contaminated — the difference between a valve body and an assembly

Send those five items and we confirm the variant, the part number, stock and lead time in writing, normally within four business hours. If you cannot find the code, send a wide photograph of the case and we will tell you where to look on your specific model.

10Sources and frequently asked questions

Application and year data on this page is compiled from JATCO application notes, manufacturer service information, and the application tables published by aftermarket distributors who carry this platform daily (Transpeed, Daysyore, Autolink Automatics and others), cross-checked against the comparative RE0F11A / RE0F11B teardown published in GEARS Magazine. Ratios, torque figures and valve body references are the same set published in our JF015E / RE0F11A complete technical guide, which cites Nissan service bulletins NTB15-037, NTB20-036 and NTB12-055, and GM Special Coverage N192271110.

Is the Nissan Kicks a JF015E?

The Kicks is a CVT7, but the trade literature documents the 2018–2021 Kicks and the 2020-plus Versa as using the wide-ratio RE0F11B variant — understood to be the CVT7 W/R direction published as JF020E — rather than the RE0F11A. The two differ in pulley range (2.200–0.550 versus 2.200–0.458), overall coverage (7.3:1 versus 8.7:1) and final drive. Do not order RE0F11A parts for one of these without confirming the code on the housing.

My car is a 2016 Versa but your chart says 2012–2019. Which is right?

Both. The chart lists the window in which the unit was in production for that nameplate; a 2016 Versa falls inside it. Where catalogues appear to stop at 2015 it is because the catalogue was written then, not because the car changed. Confirm with the code on the transmission housing.

Can I identify my transmission from the VIN alone?

Not reliably. The VIN tells us the factory configuration — engine, market, model year — but if the transmission has ever been replaced, the label on the installed unit is what counts. Send the VIN and a photo of the code on the case, and we confirm which of the two applies.

Is the JF015E the same as the RE0F11A?

Yes at family level: JF015E is JATCO's model designation, RE0F11A is Nissan's service code, and CVT7 is JATCO's family name. It is the wide-ratio RE0F11B, not the RE0F11A, that is the different unit.

Which models use the same valve body as my JF015E?

None outside the RE0F11A application set. Within the variant, the valve body still differs between US and international calibration (for example 31705-X429B/C/D versus 31705-3JX8A) and between open and closed solenoid cap types. That is why we match the part against the code and a photo rather than against a car model.

Do all these cars take Nissan NS-3?

CVT7 applications use NS-3 in the great majority of cases, but fluid specification follows the vehicle manufacturer's requirement for that market, and some Suzuki and Mitsubishi applications state their own specification. We confirm the correct fluid with the order rather than assume it.

I have a JF016E car, not a JF015E. Is this page still useful?

Section 09 is. The identification method — code on the housing, not the model year — is identical across the JATCO CVT families, and the family grid on the JATCO CVT hub covers JF011E, JF016E, JF017E, JF018E and JF020E the same way.

What do you need to confirm the right JF015E part?

The transmission code from the housing, the VIN, the stored fault codes, a photograph of the original valve body showing the solenoid side, and the fluid condition. With those we confirm the variant and part number, stock and lead time in writing within four business hours. MOQ is one piece.
