On this page
This page is the reference sheet we use on the bench when a JF015E comes in — and the one we send to buyers who ask "will this fit mine?". It answers four questions in order: what the unit is, which cars it went into, which OE numbers identify the parts, and which versions will physically fit but will not work. Everything below is traceable to JATCO documentation, manufacturer service bulletins, or the parts catalogues of the aftermarket distributors who carry this platform daily.
What this guide gives you
- Aliases and family — JF015E, RE0F11A, CVT7, and why all three appear on the same box.
- A vehicle and year table covering Nissan, Chevrolet, Mitsubishi and Suzuki applications.
- An OE number map for valve bodies, solenoids, belts, pulley sets, oil pumps and coolers.
- The incompatible versions that cause most wrong-fit orders on this platform.
- A fault code table with what each code actually points to — P0776, P0841, P0965 and the judder codes.
- The JF015E resource cluster: the twelve-page deep-dive set this guide belongs to.
01The one-line answer
If you only read one line: the JF015E / RE0F11A is a compact JATCO CVT7 for small front-wheel-drive cars, it shares its nameplate with nothing else in the JATCO range, and three details decide whether a part fits — the solenoid count and cap type, the US versus international valve body variant, and the 29- versus 30-tooth pulley. Confirm those three against the original unit and most fitment risk disappears.
Everything else on this page exists to let you confirm those three details quickly, and to tell you what the fault codes and drivability complaints are actually pointing at.
02What the JF015E is — and its three aliases
The JF015E is JATCO's CVT7 family transmission: a steel push-belt, variable-pulley CVT bolted to a two-speed auxiliary planetary gearbox. That auxiliary unit is the design's signature feature — it gives the car a much wider overall ratio spread than the pulley range alone would allow, while keeping the case small and light enough for a 1.6-litre subcompact. JATCO documents the auxiliary transmission as a defining element of the CVT7 architecture.
The same physical transmission wears three names depending on who is writing it down. This is the single most common source of confusion in parts ordering, because a seller may list a part under one name and a buyer may search under another.
| Name | Used by | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| JF015E | JATCO, aftermarket parts trade | The manufacturer's own model designation. Use this when ordering from us or any parts distributor. |
| RE0F11A | Nissan service literature, scanners, VIN lookups | Nissan's internal code. Appears in TSBs and diagnostic software, so this is usually what a workshop sees first. |
| CVT7 | JATCO marketing, press, some vehicle documentation | Family name covering the CVT7 generation, including closely related variants such as RE0F11B and RE0F12A that are not the same unit. |
| CVT-7 / CVT 7 | Parts listings, marketplace titles | Cosmetic spelling. Treat as CVT7 — then verify the actual code on the housing. |
A nameplate is not proof. We have seen CVT7-family units with different solenoid counts sold under identical listings. Before ordering, read the code stamped on the transmission housing and photograph it — that photograph settles the version question faster than any catalogue lookup.
03Which vehicles run a JF015E — and for which years
The platform was designed for small front-wheel-drive cars, and it spread across several manufacturers because JATCO supplies more than Nissan. Years below are the commonly cited application windows; production dates and calibration vary by market, so always confirm against the vehicle's own code or VIN.
| Make | Model | Application years | Engine / notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nissan | Versa | 2012–2019 | 1.6L, FWD sedan/hatch |
| Nissan | Versa Note | 2014–2019 | 1.6L, FWD hatch |
| Nissan | Sentra (B17) | 2013–2019 | 1.8L, FWD (earlier and later generations use different units) |
| Nissan | Tiida | 2011–2015 | 1.6L, FWD |
| Nissan | Note | 2012–2019 | Global market compact MPV |
| Nissan | Cube | 2012–2019 | 1.8L, FWD (US-market window shorter) |
| Nissan | Juke | Select 2011–2017 non-turbo 1.6L | Confirm the code — turbo variants differ |
| Nissan | NV200 | 2013–2018 | Commercial van, 1.6L |
| Nissan | Micra / March | Global markets, from 2012 | 1.2L / 1.6L depending on market |
| Nissan | Rogue / Rogue Select | Select 2014–2016 | Confirm version — other Rogues use different CVTs |
| Chevrolet | Spark | 2013–2015 | 1.2L; subject to GM special coverage N192271110 |
| Chevrolet | City Express | 2015–2018 | Rebadged NV200 |
| Mitsubishi | Mirage | 2012–2020 | 1.2L, widely serviced platform |
| Mitsubishi | Lancer | Select 2012–2017 | 2.0L applications — verify code |
| Suzuki | Swift / Ciaz / SX4 / Wagon R | Select markets | Availability differs sharply by region |
Two practical consequences follow from that table. First, a JF015E valve body bought for a US-market Nissan often does not suit an Asian-market Suzuki of the same year, because calibration and hardware revisions diverge. Second, high-mileage Spark and Versa Note units are the ones we see most in repair-shop demand, followed by Mirage — which is useful if you are deciding what to keep on the shelf.
04OE part number map: every number you need to order
These are the reference numbers that identify the major service parts for this platform. They come from JATCO/Nissan part numbering as published in the aftermarket catalogues of distributors who carry JF015E inventory. Numbers are grouped by the part that fails most often.
| Component | Reference numbers | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Valve body assembly — US version | 31705-X429B (reman), 31705-X429C / 31705-X429D (new) | The common US-market service unit |
| Valve body assembly — international 1.6L / 1.8L | 31705-3JX8A | International calibration; do not substitute for US units |
| Valve body assembly — open solenoid type | 31705-3JX5D | Open-cap solenoid configuration |
| Valve body (earlier US listing) | 31705-X428B / X428C / X428E | Seen on 2011–2015 Versa / Tiida / Sentra listings — verify against the original |
| Valve body kit (VB + gasket + VB filter) | 3170E-X427D / 3170E-X427E | Convenient when the filter and gasket are also due |
| Solenoid — N/H closed cap (individual) | 31941-3KX1A | Closed-cap type |
| Solenoid kit (multi-piece) | 31941-1XF0A, 31941-1XZ0A, 31941-30X0A / 30X0B / 30X0C | Pressure-control and shift solenoid sets seen in kit form |
| Drive belt (steel push belt) | 901072 / 901068 | Belt number identifies the pulley tooth generation it matches |
| Pulley and belt set with rear cover — 29 tooth | 31214-3JX9B | 29-tooth primary pulley generation |
| Pulley and belt set with rear cover — 30 tooth | 31214-X429D | 30-tooth primary pulley generation — not mixed with 29-tooth parts |
| Oil pump assembly | 31340-X420B; pump assembly kit 31340-X429E | Pump wear shows up as low line pressure and a whine |
| Oil cooler | 21606-3JX2B (1.8L US, two-pipe), 21606-3JX0A (international, thin) | Different pipe layouts — check what is on the car |
| Fluid | Nissan NS-3 CVT fluid | NS-3 only. NS-2 and generic ATF are not substitutes. |
If you need these as physical parts we hold, the matching catalogue pages are here: JF015E valve body, JF015E solenoid kits, RE0F11A pulley and belt hard parts, RE0F11A / JF015E sensors, and complete JF015E assemblies. Stock and lead time are confirmed per order.
05Versions that do not interchange — check these before you buy
Most wrong-fit orders on this platform come from four specific mismatches. None of them are visible in a photograph of the outside of the box, which is exactly why they get missed.
| What looks the same | Why it is not | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| Six-solenoid valve body 31705-50X0B | Belongs to RE0F11B / RE0F12A / JF020E — a related CVT7-family unit, not a JF015E. Fitting the wrong unit gives incorrect pressure behaviour and new codes. | Count solenoids and compare the part number against the original valve body, not against a listing title. |
| Open-cap vs closed-cap solenoids | Both configurations exist within JF015E. The harness seat and cap design differ, so a set of the wrong type will not seat correctly. | Look at the cap on the original solenoid: open or closed. |
| US vs international valve body | Different calibration and hardware revisions (31705-X429x US family vs 31705-3JX8A international). | Tie the unit to a VIN and market, not just to the vehicle model name. |
| 29-tooth vs 30-tooth primary pulley sets | The pulley tooth count changes the belt match. Mixing generations destroys the belt within a short distance. | Count the teeth on the original, or match the pulley-set number (3JX9B vs X429D). |
| Nissan NS-2 or generic CVT/ATF fluid | NS-3 is formulated for this generation's friction and pressure behaviour. Wrong fluid produces judder and pressure faults that look like valve body failure. | Confirm the fluid specification before condemning the valve body. |
| JF011E (RE0F10A) parts | Larger CVT7-family sibling. Valve bodies, pulleys and belts do not swap across. | Check the housing code — JF011E appears on bigger Nissan products. |
Because these four variants share the same family name, a listing saying "JF015E valve body" can still be the wrong unit for your customer's car. The combination we ask for — housing code + VIN + photo of the original valve body — resolves it in one exchange.
06Fault codes: what each one actually means
Codes on this platform cluster around pressure control, the integrated fluid pressure sensor, the converter clutch and ratio control. The table below is the interpretation we work from; treat a code as a direction, never as a verdict, because several components produce the same complaint from the driver's seat.
| Code | Meaning | What it usually points to on a JF015E |
|---|---|---|
| P0776 | Pressure control solenoid "B" — performance or stuck off | The most common JF015E code. Pressure-control solenoid wear, often with bore wear behind it. Very frequently paired with judder complaints. |
| P0841 | Transmission fluid pressure sensor / switch "A" — range / performance | The pressure sensor is integrated into the valve body on this unit. Erratic signal usually means a failing valve body assembly rather than a standalone sensor. |
| P0840 | Fluid pressure sensor / switch "A" — circuit fault | Electrical side: harness, connector corrosion, or the sensor circuit inside the valve body. |
| P0846 | Fluid pressure sensor / switch "B" — range / performance | Secondary pressure circuit misbehaviour; commonly valve-body related. |
| P0965 | Pressure control solenoid "B" — control circuit range / performance | Frequently reported on Chevrolet Spark (2013–2015) and NV200. Solenoid or harness circuit; the solenoid lives inside the valve body. |
| P0746 | Pressure control solenoid "A" — performance or stuck off | Line pressure control side of the same story as P0776. |
| P0740 / P0741 / P0744 | Torque converter clutch circuit / performance / intermittent | Lock-up clutch or its control circuit. Confirm whether shudder disappears with lock-up commanded off before ordering a converter. |
| P0715 / P0720 | Input / output speed sensor circuit malfunction | Sensor, wiring, or debris on the sensor tip — check before condemning hydraulics. |
| P0730 | Incorrect transmission ratio detected | Belt slip or pulley control failure. Serious: inspect belt and pulley faces before selling any hydraulic part. |
| P17F0 / P17F1 | CVT judder (judder diagnosis and decision tree) | Nissan TSB NTB20-036 exists specifically for this. Repeated judder codes usually mean the decision is no longer valve body versus belt — it is belt and pulley condition. |
Industry service literature documents two covered-repair programmes worth knowing, because they shape what your customer has already been told: Nissan extended CVT warranty coverage to 84 months / 84,000 miles on affected models, and GM issued Special Coverage N192271110 for 2013–2015 Spark (10 years / 120,000 miles). Nissan TSB NTB15-037 covers control valve replacement and reprogramming, and NTB12-055 covers axle spline clicking — a non-CVT noise that gets misdiagnosed as transmission failure.
07Specifications and inspection data
These are the figures we check against when a unit arrives on the bench. Published JATCO specifications come first; the workshop figures below them are the practical checks that decide whether a part is serviceable.
| Parameter | Value | Source / how it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Layout | Continuously variable, steel push belt, variable pulleys | JATCO CVT7 architecture |
| Auxiliary gearbox | Two-speed planetary | JATCO-documented CVT7 feature; widens overall spread |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive, transverse | Application constraint |
| Torque capacity | 150 Nm (documented) | JATCO / distributor specification |
| Pulley ratio range | 2.200 – 0.550 | JATCO / distributor specification |
| Overall ratio coverage | 7.3 | Includes the auxiliary gearbox |
| Converter | Hydraulic torque converter with lock-up clutch | Lock-up shudder is a common complaint |
| Control unit | External TCM (separate module) | Relearn / reprogramming is commonly required after valve body replacement |
| Fluid | Nissan NS-3 CVT fluid | Level checked at specified fluid temperature; no conventional dipstick |
| Pressure sensor signal | Approx. 0.5–4.5 V working range | Watch live data: erratic or stuck voltage with changing RPM implicates the valve body circuit |
| Solenoid mounting torque | Approx. 8–10 Nm | Per common service documentation — over-torque cracks the valve body |
| Always replaced with the valve body | Pan gasket and internal filter / strainer | Standard practice; debris in a new body is the leading cause of repeat failure |
| Reported failure windows (trade observation) | Valve body 80,000–145,000 km; belt and pulley 113,000–209,000 km | Field data from trade sources — indicative, not a manufacturer limit |
Valve bodies are disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned, bores and spool valves inspected, wear parts replaced where specified, then pressure-tested on a computerised valve body bench before packing. Complete CVT7 units are run under load. That is the difference between a cleaned used unit and a bench-tested remanufactured one — and it is why we can state a 12-month written warranty.
08Symptom to part: what to order, and when
The commercial question is not only "what is broken" but "what level of repair does this evidence support". Ordering a complete assembly when a bench-tested valve body would have fixed it is the most expensive mistake in this platform's aftermarket.
| What the driver reports | Most likely cause | What to order |
|---|---|---|
| Shudder at light throttle around 40 km/h, codes P0776 / P17F0 | Pressure control instability from valve body wear | Valve body (or solenoid kit if the body tests clean) + fluid and filter |
| Hesitation pulling away; RPM rises, car slow to move | Low line pressure: valve body, oil pump wear, or belt slip | Pressure test first; valve body if pressure is the fault |
| Delayed Drive or Reverse engagement | Pressure control / internal leakage | Valve body; inspect pump while the pan is off |
| P0730 incorrect ratio, or judder codes that return after repair | Belt and pulley faces already damaged | Pulley and belt set matched to tooth generation; assembly on badly scored units |
| Limp mode with P0965 on a Spark / NV200 | Solenoid circuit or valve body assembly | Valve body assembly (sensor is integrated); check the TCM connector for cracking |
| Shudder only at steady lock-up speed, code P0741 | Converter clutch | Converter — confirm the symptom disappears with lock-up commanded off |
If the diagnosis lands on hydraulics, start from the JF015E valve body page; if it lands on the belt and pulley, the RE0F11A pulley and belt page carries the 29- and 30-tooth generations. Send us the housing code and a photo of the original unit and we will confirm the version before you commit.
09The JF015E resource cluster
This guide is the entry point of a twelve-page reference set built around this one transmission code. Depth on a single platform beats breadth across twenty — for a workshop deciding what part to order, and for an answer engine deciding which page to cite. Pages go live in the order below.
The JF015E is one of six JATCO CVT families we supply. For the full range — JF011E, JF016E, JF017E, JF018E and JF020E, with the Nissan RE0F and Mitsubishi F1C / W1C code each one carries — see the JATCO CVT parts hub. If your unit is not a CVT7, start there instead.

Frequently asked questions
Is the JF015E the same as RE0F11A and CVT7?
They refer to the same transmission from three different directions. JF015E is JATCO's model designation, RE0F11A is Nissan's service code for it, and CVT7 is JATCO's family name. For parts ordering, JF015E is the safest term because it is what the aftermarket catalogues index against.
Will a JF020E valve body fit a JF015E?
No. The JF020E and the related RE0F11B / RE0F12A units use a six-solenoid valve body (for example 31705-50X0B), while the JF015E uses its own configurations. They belong to the same CVT7 family but are not interchangeable. A full comparison is in production as page 3 of this cluster.
What fluid does a JF015E take?
Nissan NS-3 CVT fluid. NS-2 and generic ATF are not substitutes: wrong fluid changes friction and pressure behaviour and produces judder and pressure codes that mimic valve body failure. Level is set by temperature, not by a dipstick.
Does the valve body need programming after replacement?
On this platform the TCM is a separate module and a relearn or adaptation reset is commonly required after valve body work. We confirm the procedure with the order. This is covered in detail in page 9 of the cluster.
How do I know whether to order a valve body or a complete assembly?
Let the codes and the belt condition decide. Pressure-side codes with a clean belt and pulleys usually justify a bench-tested valve body. P0730, or judder codes that return after hydraulic repair, indicate belt and pulley damage that hydraulics alone will not fix.
What do you need from me to confirm fitment?
The code stamped on the transmission housing, the vehicle VIN, the stored fault codes, and a photograph of the original valve body showing the solenoid configuration. With those we confirm the version and state stock and lead time in writing, normally within four business hours.
Send the housing code, the VIN and a photo of your original unit. Our engineers confirm the exact JF015E version, the part that fixes the fault, and stock and lead time — in writing, within four business hours.
